Noteworthy Projects
DoctorOz.com
Lead themer and performance specialist for Zoco's Dr. Oz website. I developed all front end pieces of this application, many back end pieces and did all performance tuning. This is the hardest project I've worked on because it gets so much traffic, it's a drupal site, and drupal is REALLY hard to scale.
- Learned an immense amount about performance tuning drupal including Boost cache, Authcache, Amazon EC2, Scalr, Peissler load testing and the list goes on.
- Polished javascript skills, especially in the way of ajax forms processing.
- Succeeded in bringing to life a drupal site that can handle 20,000 unique visitors per day, and potentially many many more. The site is listed as 1200th in the world terms of magnitude of web traffic
Lead themer for ABC’s The View website. I primarily developed all front end pieces on this application. Working together with a back end developer we were able to implement and deliver this application in less than 2 months. The schedule was very tight but because our development process had become very refined, everything went incredibly smoothly.
- Extended jquery skillset to create fairly complex ajax and jquery carousels.
- Brought my x-browser HTML/CSS design skills to the next level.
- Reused existing expertise in many common drupal areas to create this website in record time.
Image-Metrics.com
Working in both front end and back end developer roles I was able to completely own this clean and well structured Drupal site. By the time I’d begun working on this project my development processes were quite mature and as a result this project went very smoothly, was on time and on budget. It looks great and shows well.
- Extended Drupal expertise in menu subsystem.
- Managed all aspects of development including a 3 tiered deployment architecture, task and bug management systems and parallel development (graphics and code) coordination.
- Improved theming/design skills.
Hypercomics.com
Lead developer of a full featured social network for comic book creators integrated with a Windows desktop application called Comic Book Creator. Responsible for application architecture design and implementation. Coordinated a team of 5 people including an artist, a designer, a Javascript engineer and a PHP engineer.
- Developed solid expertise in the Drupal platform
- Effectively coordinated a 5 person team to meet deadlines and deliver a bleeding edge system.
- Considerably improved skills in web application performance optimization and hardware architecture.
Texas State Birth Certificate Management System
Consulting Engineer responsible for customization of a product intended to catalog all Texas State birth certificates. Successfully delivered a set of several .NET and VB 6.0 components for a system which augmented a mostly automated process of reading, scanning and ingesting birth certificate data into a database. The components were designed to eliminate as much manual data entry as possible.
- Developed functional expertise in .NET windows application development.
- Created a smart algorithm to stream line data entry by predicting the value(s) of certain pieces of data which improved the speed of the system by over 1000 percent.
Digital Asset Library
Design, development and delivery of a digital asset management system based on Avid’s Alienbrain object oriented database. The system was a medium scale search application designed specifically for archiving digital assets like 3D models, textures and the like. The interface was very clean and the system is still in use today (developed in 2003).
- Developed a Java Server Pages framework using Java 1.2.
- Improved skill with Apache web server and Apache Tomcat servlet container.
